How we repair rust so it does not come back
Find how far it goes. First we find how far it has gone, whether that is surface rust, deeper scale, or all the way through the metal. We also check the back of the panel, since rust usually starts from the inside where moisture sits.
Cut it all out. Anything beyond light surface rust is cut out completely, because rust left behind keeps spreading under the repair.
Weld, seal, refinish. We then weld in sound metal, treat and seal both sides of the panel, and refinish it to match. Filler is only ever a smoothing step over solid welded metal. It is not a rust repair on its own, and painting over rust only hides it while it keeps eating the panel.
